Mouse Interleukin-17

Mouse IL-17 cDNA encodes a 158 amino acid residue precursor protein with a 21 amino acid residue signal peptide that is cleaved to yield the 137 amino acid residue mature IL-17. Both recombinant and natural IL-17 have been shown to exist as disulfide linked homodimers. While the expression of IL-17 mRNA is restricted to activated alpha beta TCR+CD4-CD8-T cells, the expression of mIL-17 R mRNA has been detected in virtually all cells and tissues tested. IL-17 exhibits multiple biological activities on a variety of cells including: the induction of IL-6 and IL-8 production in fibroblasts; the enhancement of surface expression of ICAM-1 in fibroblasts; activation of NF-kB and co-stimulation of T cell proliferation.

Biological Function

guidelines

Members of the interleukin-17 family are involved in the regulation of normal versus aberrant T-cell responses. IL17 family may play an important role in the initiation or maintenance of the proinflammatory response

IL17A

IL17A induced the production of IL6 and IL8 and enhanced surface expression of intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM1)

IL17B

IL17B stimulates the release of tumor necrosis factor alpha and IL-1-beta from the monocytic cell line THP-2

IL17C

IL17C stimulates the release of tumor necrosis factor alpha and IL-1-beta from the monocytic cell line THP-1

IL17D

IL17D induces expression of IL-6, IL-8, and GM-CSF from endothelial cells

IL17E

IL17E (also known as IL25) induced expression of mRNA for Th2-like cytokines, notably IL5 and IL13, and chemokines, such as eotaxin, along with mucus secretion and airway hyperreactivity

IL17F

IL17F induced expression of mRNA for inflammatory cytokines and chemokines typical of a Th1 response
