Introduction

guidelines

Interleukin 16 was described originally as Lymphocyte chemoattractant factor (LCF), which acts as a chemoattractant for CD4 (+) T-cells, macrophages, and eosinophils. The protein is produced by lymphocytes, eosinophils, mast cells, and lung epithelium. Fibroblasts from several tissues can express IL-16. Very high levels are produced in response to IL-1-beta.

Biological Function

guidelines

Stimulates a migratory response in CD4+ lymphocytes, monocytes, and eosinophils. Also induces T-lymphocyte expression of interleukin 2 receptor. Ligand for CD4.
