Introduction
ICAM1 is a cell surface receptor molecule that is implicated in a number of cellular processes including inflammation, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and metastasis of cancer. Its soluble form is a product of cleavage at the cell’s surface and this form may have either positive or negative feed back functions as found in the blood.
Biological Function
ICAM proteins are ligands for the leukocyte adhesion protein LFA-1 (integrin alpha-L/beta-2), ICAM1 protein is the major human rhinovirus receptor.
Recommended name:
Intercellular adhesion molecule 1, ICAM1
