A steroid or mineralocorticoid secreted by the adrenal cortex. Deoxycorticsterone acts as a precursor to aldosterone. It can be used to treat adrenal insufficiency. In particular, desoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA) is used as replacement therapy in Addison's disease.
