D-Lactic acid is the end product of the enzyme Glyoxalase II ([EC:3.1.2.6] hydroxyacyl-glutathione hydrolase) which converts the intermediate substrate S-lactoyl-glutathione to reduced glutathione and D-lactate. (OMIM 138790)
